What is a Baby Feeding Calculator?

It turns your baby's weight into a ballpark for how much formula they need — roughly 2.5 oz per pound of body weight per day — and splits that across the number of feeds so you know what to put in the bottle.

Use it as a sanity check when you're building a feeding routine or moving between feed counts. Every baby is different, appetites change day to day, and the 32 oz daily cap is there because most babies don't need more — always follow your pediatrician's advice.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How much formula does my baby need?

A widely used starting point for formula-fed babies is about 2.5 oz of milk per pound of body weight per day. So a 10-pound baby needs roughly 25 oz across the day. Most babies should not take more than about 32 oz a day, so this tool caps the total there.

How do I work out the amount per feeding?

Divide the daily total by the number of feeds. If your baby takes 25 oz over 8 feeds, that's a little over 3 oz per feeding. Newborns feed more often in smaller amounts; older babies take more per feeding but less often.

Does this work for breastfed babies?

Breastfed babies self-regulate at the breast, so there's no ounce count to hit — feed on demand and watch for hunger and fullness cues. This calculator is aimed at formula feeding or measuring expressed milk in a bottle.

How do I know my baby is getting enough?

Steady weight gain, six or more wet diapers a day, and a content baby between feeds are the reassuring signs. Numbers are only a guide — if you're worried about feeding or weight, check with your pediatrician.
